Lovin’ Summer

Weekly Photo Challenge:  Summer lovin’.  Thus far it has been a fabulous summer in Northumberland and fortunately we have no plans to go anywhere until the Autumn – what is the point when we live in this glorious county.

This was my summer lovin’ week in Northumberland:

Sunday – heavy rain overnight but the skies are clear:

Raindrops

Monday – temperatures are rising and it is becoming almost ‘too darn hot‘:

Too darn hot ...

Tuesday – an evening walk along the Tyne at Corbridge – it is looking low:

The Tyne

Wednesday – remember this heat in the bleak, dark December days:

Corbridge summer

Thursday – a view across a sweltering county from Hedley on the Hill:

Under a blazing sun

Friday – There is talk on the local news of the heat damaging road surfaces – can’t resist it can they – no good news without the obligatory bad.  This one seems to be holding together:

Unwinding road

Saturday – sailing through Kielder Forest:

Wonderful response, I especially like the final shot. And I agree whole-heartedly with your comment about the media and good/bad news!

Beautiful work… and the last one is especially beautiful 🙂

That last photo is very striking. You’ve got the right attitude: remember the heat during the bleak dark winter. It’s been hot over this way, too.

Thanks Julie. We have just booked to go on the Hurtigruten Line up the Norwegian coast in December. We will be in Kirkenes on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I think that is why the cold of December is on my mind.

I love the shot of the road: it alludes to a journey awaiting. And who can resist adventure? 🙂 Great interpretation of the challenge.

Many thanks – sometimes I think I overdo the road shots so your generous comment is much appreciated.

My pleasure and look forward to seeing more in the weeks to come.

Many thanks Seonaid. it is a wonderful summer so far – it started mid-2012, just after the met office announced we were at the beginning of a ten-year cycle of wet summers 🙂

  6. Lovely series Robin! I am totally intrigued by the sails in the trees. Great photograph and processing 🙂

Many thanks Sarah – there are a number of art installations in the forest but I can find no information on any of them. We are going back on Thursday, I will do some more research 🙂

Beautiful images! I like how you did selective color processing to highlight the canopies.

Beautiful, breathtaking photographs and yes, why would we want to go anywhere else when we have this? I just wish I could photograph more of it than I do. Why should I when you are doing it so beautifully. Love each and everyone of them. Beautiful collection.

Many thanks Jo, a very generous comment. I love it here…….just so long as the sun keeps shining 🙂

    Lovely images as usual!
I really like the last one in this post. Kind of surreal.

And it’s a fabulous summer here in Sweden too!!

  10. Thank you for these lovely pix of Northumberland – my favourite county. I’ve shared it with my daughter on FB – I hope you don’t mind.

Wonderful series-love those cows and that last shot with the selected color is magical!

    • northumbrianlight · July 28, 2014

Many thanks Meg – those cows are our immediate neighbours – I am almost on first name terms with some of them 🙂

“remember this heat in the bleak, dark December days” – yes, Robin, we need to store up all the summer essence you’ve served us with here. I love the last shot especially.

    • northumbrianlight · July 29, 2014

Thanks Tish – we are planning our Christmas away at the moment so dark December days don’t seem that far off 😦

  13. restlessjo · July 29, 2014

Yes I love that last shot too, Robin 🙂 That river is pretty low! No fish a-leaping 😦

  14. bentehaarstad · August 1, 2014

Great sderies from a calm, fresh summer feeling. Especially loves the cows.

    • northumbrianlight · August 1, 2014

Many thanks Bente – they are a grand bunch of animals – actually teenage bullocks so a little frisky and excitable 🙂

  15. Thalia · August 1, 2014

These shots are really exceptional! A bit of rural beauty cannot hurt sometimes!

    • northumbrianlight · August 1, 2014

Many thanks, much appreciated. We live in this rural beauty and the danger is we take it for granted.
