Travel theme: Relaxing

This is Ron Mueck’s Drift from Art Big and Small at Belsay Hall in 2010.  The installation is hung vertically, crucifix-like, in a distinctly uncomfortable manner.  Viewed side-on and switched to the horizontal the work becomes much more relaxed.  This must be Frankie when he finally got to Hollywood:

Drift

Make making it your intention
Live those dreams
Scheme those schemes
Got to hit me
Hit me
Hit me with those laser beams

(This is a very creative remix but if you were offended by the original, please don’t listen; this is an ‘enhanced’ version)

Playing ‘spot the sample’ with the Frankie Goes to Hollywood remix… Lot of ghosts of the 1980s in there…

Wow, this is kind of cool. I’m going to hunt down the original. I do like the pic on the horizontal, but can imagine how dramatic it must have been vertically.

Hi – click on “vertically” in the text and you can see the alternative view – doesn’t look such a cool dude from above 🙂

Good old Frankie! 🙂 Haven’t been to Belsay in a while. It was quite expensive last time but I do like the quarry.

Belsay is one of my favourite places – as you say the walk through the quarry to the castle is always good and the empty, slightly jaded interior makes for a great exhibition space.
