Travel Theme: Shadows

This is my first submission for a Travel Theme – I am suffering from ‘cabin fever’ and need to escape, if only metaphysically.  Shadows can be a problem in photography – some are intended, some not; here are examples of both.  This first one was taken in a field adjacent to Wolseley Park in Staffordshire.  I was smart enough to stand in the shadow of the tree – it might have been ‘amusing’ if I had stuck both arms out, although difficult to press the shutter.

ShadowNow spot the unintended shadow on this example of pole photography – not that I travelled far to take it – about twenty yards from my front door.

Pole photographySome you get right and some you get wrong but then almost all things can be corrected with Photoshop :-).

I have written before of my passion for the free verse of Norman MacCaig.  His writing needs to be savoured so I am restricting myself to one poem per day.  This extract from Sargasso Sea tells of the elvers’ journey across the Atlantic and fits well with a travel theme:

So many will find
the river I know best.
How eagerly they swim
against its rushing torrent

that brings them news
from high places
I once visited
long ago.
